University quest, foresight, and objectives

The aim of the University is to inspire musicians, providing them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to express themselves dynamically through modern popular music. Its vision is to create an inspiring, diverse, and impartial higher education environment in which students, faculty, and community members can study, create, perform, record, and share music.

Our Illustrious History

The university, which was founded in 1999 as Pasadena International Music Academy, renamed California College of Music in 2008. It first flourished under the statesmanship of legendary trombonist Wayne Henderson of The Crusaders and Grammy-winning producer Reggie Dozier, who designed our College's facilities to function as a professional-grade recording studio. California College of Music has become known in recent times, under the capable direction of our current Dean & Chief Academic Officer Chris Kapica, M.M., and our organisational Board of Directors, for its renowned faculty of experienced music industry professionals, its focus on popular music performance and production, and the encouraging atmosphere it provides for its students and the community at large to actively engage in music.

Associate Degree In Music Performance
The Associate of Science in Performance degree course (6 quarters, 18 months, 90 credits) is California College of Music's most comprehensive and intensive program. Students gain practical real-world skills and extensive musical experience while defining and honing their own voice or playing style, with an emphasis on refined musicianship, personal artistic mentoring, and dynamic self-expression.
Successful musicians with proven professional track records, exceptional academic backgrounds, and vigilant yet approachable teaching styles teach courses. The rigorous 6-quarter associate degree program invented to be completed in only 18 months and to address the complex expectations that modern performers face quickly and thoroughly. Our associate degree program promotes in-depth knowledge of musical structures, technical proficiency, and self-confidence, as well as exposing students to a diverse and well-rounded palette of styles. Students will have performed in front of live audiences multiple times, taken part in recording sessions, led their bands, created electronic music, received copious amounts of critical feedback on their performances, and developed a portfolio and press kit materials to begin promoting their work to music lovers and industry representatives by the time they graduate.
