About Lithuania

Lithuania is considered to be one of the Baltic states.It is situated along the southeastern shore of the Baltic Sea, to the east of Sweden and Denmark. It is bordered by Latvia to the north, Belarus to the east and south, Poland to the south, and Kaliningrad Oblast to the southwest.

Lithuania has an estimated population of 2.8 million people as of 2019, and it's capital and largest city is Vilnius. Other major cities are Kaunas and Klaipėda.

It's climate, which ranges between maritime and continental, is relatively mild. There are 29,000 rivers with a total length of 64,000 km in Lithuania, the Nemunas River basin occupying 74% of the territory of the country. Agricultural land comprises 54% of Lithuania's territory. Lithuania is also active in developing cooperation among northern European countries. It has been a member of the Baltic Council since its establishment in 1993.
